Athlete of the Month

Congratulations Pam!!

Hometown: Sicklerville, NJ

Current Location: Eagleville, PA

Age: 34

Occupation: Media Director, Harmelin Media

College: Widener University

How long have you been a CrossFitter? 3 years

Did you ever play sports? I did – found field hockey in the 7th grade and ditched all other sports to focus on it. Played 4 years in college. Started as a freshman and was a captain my senior year. NEVER scored a single goal. In my high school or college career. DEFENSE wins games!! I was mid-field in college but was a defensive minded mid-fielder to say the least.

Got some cool (or uncool) hobbies you'd like to share? Most would say working out is my hobby

What is your biggest achievement at CrossFit? 20 unbroken dubs. They are (one of) my nemesis. I was a terrible jump roper (even singles) when I first started so to now be able to do 20 unbroken makes me VERY happy!

What do you feel that you still need to work on? Plenty. Form. Particularly on cleans as I used to do them for years prior to discovering crossfit and come to find out my form was off. I rarely open my hips and just “muscle the weight up” – would love to see the kind of weight I could throw around if I did it properly. Old habits die hard!

Goals for the rest of this year? To do the open, to continue to go 4/5 days a week and to get back to my pre-baby self. I’d love to be able to snatch 100# and back squat 200#!!

What's your favorite WOD? By far … Karen. I kinda like wall balls but then to be pretty good at a WOD feels good too.

How about your favorite food/snacks? FRUIT. I eat it almost to a fault. I once ate so many cherries that I made myself sick.

What is the craziest workout outside of CF you have ever done? I ran two marathons. Guess some consider that crazy. I ran one last minute to keep a friend company. I plan on running more, even considered attempting to qualify for Boston. I also did the Spartan race a few years ago.

What’s your least favorite WOD? Fran. Obviously.

Favorite lift/movement? Although form is off, I do enjoy clean and jerks. Jerks I feel strong/confident. I do like wall balls and don’t hate the burpee as much as a normal person. I also like kettlebell swings as I have been doing them for years. Even own some KBs at home.

What’s your least favorite lift/movement? Overhead squats. And snatches. Have poor shoulder mobility I need to work on.

What skill re you planning working on in the new year 2015 the most ? My two weaknesses above as well as front and back squats and string together more kipping pull ups. One day (or in my dreams) I’d love to do a muscle up!! Also to get better at HSPUs.

Whats your favorite piece of workout "gear"? The water bottle

What you say is your biggest improvement since starting CF? I’m stronger for sure. Not just upper body and weights but as a runner, CF has made my legs MUCH stronger and I’m a faster/better runner because of it.

Who is your favorite coach? Steph Vincent AMAZES me. She is inspirational. And my go to time for so long was noon when the classes can be small. She pushes me no matter how many people are doing the WOD with me. I’ve got a lot to learn from her in regards to lifting.

PR's to mention? Goals Reached? Nutrition highlights?.. I have twice cleaned at 120#. While pregnant I hit two PRs – 170# on my front squat and 130# on my split jerk. A goal of mine was to be AOTM so consider that accomplished! I’m also doing the nutrition challenge so zoning to better my performance, be more efficient and just a better/stronger me!
