Tabata Squats

Good Morning (as defined in WIKIPEDIA):
The movement of the Good Morning exercise resembles bowing to greet someone "good morning". It involves the hamstrings but is primarily used to strengthen the lower back.

The degree of knee bend used will change the focus. Keeping the legs nearly straight involves the hamstrings most.

The good-morning is an essential exercise in the Westside Barbell method and is often trained to near limit maximums. Developing strength in the lift aids in the recovery of a "bad" squat, reducing the risk of injury. Properly applied, it can also strengthen an individual's deadlift; for this reason, it is a key exercise in the conjugate method of training this lift.

In Olympic weightlifting, the good-morning is used as the most efficient assistance exercise to train the second phase of the clean or snatch pull and bases of squat positions in snatch drops and clean squat positions. In this variation, the lifter will descend, reverse direction, and accelerate the ascent, rising up onto the toes at the conclusion of the lift. This mimics the rapid hip extension and subsequent toe-rise during the clean and jerk or snatch.

Back to Basics

Over Head Squat, Push Press, and Med Ball Clean

With the hectic summer schedule coming to a close it's a good time to get back to basics. That means we have scheduled another fundamentals skills session with Jason.

This class is for anyone trying to improve their movement, thereby making them a more efficient CrossFitter. In this one hour class, Jason will review the OHS, PP, and MBC. He will spend approximately 20 minutes on each movement making sure that everyone in the class is performing the movement properly and safely. For each movement, Jason will review proper starting positions, proper finishing positions and all the subtle movements that happen in between.

This is a FREE class, but limited to the first ten people to post to comments.

Jeff Handler recently returned from the Movement and Mobility Certification hosted by Coach Kelly Starrett

...and he's got a lot to share! Learn how to develop effective mobility and flexibility strategies, improve force production, increase work outputs, avoid common and preventable movement dysfunction and injury, and understand how to address simple performance related myo-fascial and joint mobility issues.

Stiff muscles? Limited range of motion? Join Jeff Mondays and Tuesdays for 15 minutes after the 4:30PM and 5:30PM classes for a Mini-Mobility Class. We’ll work on stretching, joint mobility, and using foam rollers, lacrosse balls and walls to help increase your range of motion and decrease pain. Each week the Mini-Mobility Class will focus on different sets of joints and movements. Classes are free for members and will be starting at 5:30PM the Tuesday after Labor Day.

When:
Starting Tuesday September 7th
Classes will run 5:30-5:45PM and 6:30-6:45PM Mondays & Tuesdays

Don't forget about the dumbbells. Barbells are so much fun we often forget about the dumbbell. Dumbbells offer their own inherent challenges, a little less load of course but none the less a great exercise. Instability in more planes than a barbell, for example, as well as the ability to work only one side. This is also a real plus if an athlete has an injured shoulder or arm. Besides, single dumbbell work is just plain fun. The dumbbell snatch is no exception.

Community Notes:
The parking lot is now barricaded for our use only. This was done to increase safety and eliminate the "drive through" from non-crossfitters. What else does this mean for you? DO NOT park in the last two spots in the first or second row. Please leave these open for KoPers to drive through to the next aisle of spots. Thanks for your cooperation. If you have questions or concerns let Aimee or Jason know.
