Athlete of the Month

Congratulations Kevin!

Hometown: Mountain Top, Pa

Current Location:Wayne

Age: Currently 39. Turning 40 in August!

Occupation: Special Education Teacher

College: Bloomsburg University

How long have you been a CrossFitter?  Started fundamental classes in June of 2015.

Did you ever play sports?  No.  I started running when I turned 30.  From there I began training for triathlons, half marathons and eventually my first full marathon three years ago.

Got some cool (or uncool) hobbies you'd like to share? Wine, cheese, traveling, and working out.

What is your biggest achievement at CrossFit? This has been a year filled with PR’s and numerous opportunities to step out of my comfort zone.  My biggest accomplishment was participating in the Cross Fit Open.  Each workout was difficult and it was a challenge to Rx each workout.

What do you feel that you still need to work on? Double Unders, Double Unders, Double Unders, and Double Unders . . . Ugh!  Everything is an area to work on

Goals for the rest of this year? My goal is to work on being more efficient with movements.  I would like to participate in bar bell clinics, take on a lifting program, and focus on being a stronger athlete.

What's your favorite WOD? I enjoy any WOD that involves running, squats, handstand push-ups, or burpees.

How about your favorite food/snacks? I love food! Bring on the sushi, filet, burgers, and wings!

What is the craziest workout outside of CF you have ever done?  Marathons and triathlons have been the craziest workouts outside of KOP.

What’s your least favorite WOD?  KAREN!  Never again . . . .

Favorite lift/movement? Front Squat/Back Squat/Dead Lift

What’s your least favorite lift/movement? Thrusters and DUBs

What skill are you planning on working on in the new year 2016 the most ?
I’d like to work on many skills.  Handstands, stringing pull ups, toes to bars, and double unders are at the top of my list.

Whats your favorite piece of workout "gear”?  Wrist Wraps, rock guards, shoes

What would you say is your biggest improvement since starting CF? Being more confident in my ability, building strength and increasing endurance

Who is your favorite coach?  Every coach at KOP rocks- Giulia got me started with the summer start up class and she coaches a kick ass boot camp.  Tim provides training to improve running, knows how to push training limits, and provides awesome illustrations.  Steph is encouraging, has fun warm-ups and pushes me to lift heavier :-).  Clay provides spot on cues, nice scaling options, and a decent playlist for the warm-up and WOD.  Jenna's feedback helps to identify points for reflection and her double under latter has helped me be more consistent with dubs.  I miss 9:30 classes with Aimee.  Yes Coach Aimee!  Aimee believes in her athletes and gives specific feedback to help improve form and efficiency. I wish I was able to attend more classes with Rachel, Keith, and Gordy.

PR's to mention? Goals Reached? Nutrition highlights?..I managed to get chest to bar pull ups and hand stand push ups this year . . .eat cleaner . . .and dabble in a paleo diet.
