Oleg, great improvement on the snatch! I know that you could have gone heavier, but I am happy that you kept it where you did and executed the movement with good form.

I didn't know Roni was ref'ing the D1 women's college lacrosse championship this weekend...did you? Awesome..

  2. Thanks, Vinny! I'm glad you told me to do so; I think today I finally felt this lift, for several reps; and when the form is good - the bar comes up by itself, practically. Baby steps, one at a time :-)

  3. Typically when we see "snatch" or "clean and jerk" the squat is assumed. However, for something like "Grace" or "Isabel" the point is to keep intensity high, therefore the power clean or power snatch is ideal.

Since this is like "skipping Isabel," did the 6am class do power or squat snatches? Judging from the times, I'm thinking power but just want to be sure for the 5:30 and 6:30 classes tonight.

  5. Here is my thinking P.

For lady wods established by CF that don't say which variation is used it can be assumed that "any how" is ok.

Since Aimee does our programming she typically writes "power" when she wants power, or "hang" when she wants hang. This is simply stated as "snatch". I did not allow power snatch unless an athlete put them self at risk doing the full movement.

Clean and jerk is a different story. In a C&J, you are looking to get the weight from ground to overhead with a pitstop at the front rack. If you are going for a clean and jerk and you can save your legs by power cleaning, then good on you. When you get into serous weight on clean and jerk and you become efficient in both movements, one will find that for a 1RM you will need to squat clean.

When Aimme posts Clean and Jerk 1-1-1-1, its known that she wants a full move I would assume?? But when its 30 C and J plus a million things in a 20 minute amrap with light weight, I assume its anyhow.

I guess what I'm saying is that for me it depends on the WOD as a whole...sorry to be so long winded and this is obviously just my opinion, I did not verify with Aimee...

    Short story...full squat snatch buddy.

What happens when you take two movements that frustrate the hell out of a lot of people and put them together...this WOD!! I never really thought about what the DU and squat snatch have in common. neither one you can just power through with endurance or strength. You have to skill. increasing lung capacity and strength will only get you better at each respectively a small amount. They are skills you simply must practice to get better at.

I really liked what I saw today nooners. Great improvements and great attention to form!

Welcome to Gavin to his first class! Nice job on focusing on form folks. I saw some folks use lighter weights than they wanted to, all in the name of practicing form. Remember, practice doesn't make perfect, good practice makes perfect. Bad practice makes shitty lifetime form.

Great job tonight to everyone - especially working hard to keeping the bar close to your body....remember slow pull to mid thigh and speed through the middle!

PS - I found a kop zip up hoodie by the 70# KB's - it is now hanging up on the coat rack in the front foyer.
